Creative Nonfiction I

May 9 - June 6, 2023: Tuesdays, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (5 class meetings)

$245

How do I decide what to write about? What if my memory is flawed? How much research do I need to do? What details are the most important? What’s the best way to give and receive feedback to writers in a workshop setting?

This class invites you to explore the fundamentals of creative nonfiction, including setting, character, point of view and other elements. Class time will be spent writing with generative prompts, discussing various aspects and forms of creative nonfiction – including examples of memoir and personal essays – and establishing a writing practice. Participants will also gain experience giving and receiving feedback in a supportive environment and learning best practices for a successful workshop experience.

This class is designed for beginning writers, although more experienced writers may also benefit.

Access Program

We want our classes to be accessible to everyone, regardless of income and background. We understand that our tuition structure can present obstacles for some people. Our Access Program offers class registrations at a reduced rate. The access program for writing classes covers 60% of the class tuition. Most writing classes have at least one access spot available.

Please apply here for access rate tuition. Contact Susan Moore at susan@literary-arts.org if you have questions.
