Culture Shock: Middle Grade Graphic Novels

Sat, Nov 10, 2018 from 3:00 pm - 3:50 pm
1200 SW Park Ave Portland, Oregon 97205

New graphic novels with characters finding their place in the world—whether it’s summer camp or the car club. In Vera Brosgol’s Be Prepared, Vera is sure she’s found the one place she can fit in at Russian summer camp, but camp has the same “cool girl” drama as regular life, plus endless Russian history lessons and nightmarish outhouses. And Cathy Camper’s Lowriders Blast from the Past finds the gang—Lupe, Flapjack, and Elirio—confronting the bullies, Las Matamoscas, and proving they deserve to be in the car club. Moderated by Kate Ristau, author of Clockbreakers.

Attendees 17 years of age and younger and/or with valid high school ID enjoy free admission. Advance 2018 Portland Book Festival passes available now.
