Stories of hope against all odds, of finding love in the ruins, of making it to the other side and fighting for what you believe in. Atia Abawi’s A Land of Permanent Goodbyes is a powerful novel of refugees escaping from war-torn Syria, masterfully told by a journalist who witnessed the crisis firsthand. A young man searches for answers after the death of his brother at the hands of police in Jay Coles’ debut novel, Tyler Johnson was Here. And a teen girl falls in love after surviving a plane crash in Karen Rivers’ You Are the Everything, a story about the fates we yearn for, the fates we choose, and the fates that are chosen for us. Moderated by Katie O’Dell of Multnomah County Library.

Attendees 17 years of age and under and/or with valid high school ID receive free admission to the Portland Book Festival. Advance 2018 Portland Book Festival passes available now.
