Girls Think of Everything: The New Heroism in YA

Sat, Nov 10, 2018 from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm PST
1422 SW 11th Ave Portland, Oregon 97201

Science fiction, fantasy, myth, and history collide in these YA novels that ask us to consider who is telling the story, and the power that gives. In a distant star system, Amani is violently kidnapped from her small village and forced to serve a cruel princess in the Moroccan-inspired Mirage. Ghosts, witches, love, and revenge haunt the town of Sparrow in Shea Ernshaw’s chilling siren song, The Wicked Deep. April Genevieve Tucholke presents a new telling of Beowulf, featuring The Boneless Mercies, an ancient female sect of death-traders who will confront an epic beast. Moderated by April Baer, host of OPB’s State of Wonder.

Attendees 17 years of age and younger and/or with valid high school ID enjoy free admission. Advance 2018 Portland Book Festival passes available now.

She is happiest when lost in a good book, lost in the woods or writing her next novel. Her debut novel is The Wicked Deep. You can connect with her online at www.sheaernshaw.com.
