Incite: Queer Writers Read – January

Incite: Queer Writers Read is a curated, bimonthly reading series for Queer writers. Incite’s hope is to create conversation, connection, and greater understanding both within the Queer community and with other communities. Hosted by Vinnie Kinsella and Jennifer Perrine.

The theme for January is “Beginnings.” Our featured readers are Katie Borak, Neil Cochrane, and Aubrey Coulthurst.

This event will take place in-person at Literary Arts’ downtown center. Please review our Covid-19 guidelines. 

 

Katie Borak

Katie Borak is alive in Portland, OR. They make short queer blackout poems from pulp novels, and long stories about icebergs, fanaticism, subverting the patriarchy, and the sea.  Katie co-edits Kithe Journal, holds 1-on-1 writing sessions, teaches at Portland Community College, and works in Literary Arts’ Writers In The Schools (WITS) program.

Neil Cochrane

Neil Cochrane is a queer, trans author and artist living and working in Portland, Oregon on land belonging to the Cowlitz people, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Clackamas people, and Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. He writes speculative fiction that centers queer characters overcoming obstacles and building families. He has worked in and around the publishing industry since 2012, in such various roles as editor, literary agent assistant, marketing director, and bookseller. He is represented by Michaela Whatnall of Dystel, Goderich & Bourret.

Aubrey Coulthurst

Audrey Coulthurst is the author of critically acclaimed novels for young adults, such as the Of Fire and Stars series and Starworld (co-authored with Paula Garner). After studying music history and composition as an undergraduate and earning a Master’s degree in Book Publishing, she somehow ended up leading a double life working in finance by day and writing novels by night. Audrey was a Lambda Literary Fellow in 2013 and a Publishers Weekly Flying Start in 2016. Her debut novel Of Fire and Stars was named to the Kids’ Indie Next List, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, and was listed among Vulture’s 38 Best Queer YA Novels in 2018. Audrey grew up riding horses in the Willamette Valley, made most of her best friends while living in Austin, spent five beautiful years enjoying ocean views in Santa Monica, and currently lives in Oregon with her family.
