K-Healing: Korean Healing Fiction

March 6 - 27, 2025, Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Pacific Time, (four sessions)
online via Zoom

$165

Life in South Korea is often fast-paced and competitive, a recipe for burnout. The hot, new genre K-healing serves as a balm, providing a reprieve from the pressures of modern urban life. The Korean Times notes “Korean healing novels tell of people, burned out by the stresses of hypercompetitive life in the big city, who find new energy and personal growth through joining a community or learning a skill — running a bookshop, learning to cook or some other endeavor that allows for creative expression.”

In both of the books in this seminar, the protagonists are burned out women who quit their jobs and embark on a new chapter. The two women protagonists, Jungmin from “The Healing Season of Pottery” and Yeongju from “Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop” find themselves, and community, in a pottery studio and bookstore, providing a message of hope, healing and new beginnings.
