Korean Science Fiction: Tower and I’m Waiting for You
$165
Blending the novel and the short story format, Tower satirically examines modern life through six interconnected stories that all take place in a 674-story skyscraper. Bae Myung-hoon is one of the most famous sci-fi writers in Korea, and this is the first of his novels to be translated into English.
I’m Waiting for You has four stories that work as pairs. The first pair explores love and loss through the interconnected stories of two lovers trying to make their way to each other through the vast distances of time and space. The second pair blends science fiction with Buddhist and Korean mythology, presenting a fascinating meditation on themes of karma and identity.
An exciting look at Korean translated genre fiction, we will discuss these story collections both separately and in conversation with each other, reflecting on themes of hyper-modernity, love, loss and free will.
