Make Your Memoir Matter, Taught by Karen Karbo

Fri, Feb 21, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm PST
925 SW Washington Street Portland, OR 97205

Three day intensive course; limited to 12 students ($245):

Friday, February 21, 6:00-9:00pm; Saturday, February 22nd, 9:00am-1:00pm; Sunday, February 23, 1:00-5:00pm

If you think you’d like to write a memoir some day, this class may not be for you. This three day intensive is for writers who are working on a memoir. You’ve  begun to tell your story, in all its dramatic and loving detail. Now comes the hard part: who cares? How do you draw readers in? How do you create a story that is at once personal and universal?  In one weekend, students will work intensively on their memoirs, discover where its heartbeat lies and how to make it matter for readers.

Karen Karbo’s 2004 memoir, The Stuff of Life, about the last year she spent with her father before his death, was an NYT Notable Book, a People Magazine Critics’ Choice, a Books for a Better Life Award finalist, and a winner of the Oregon Book Award for Creative Non-fiction. She is most well known for her best-selling Kick Ass Women series, the most recent of which is  Julia Child Rules, published in October 2013.
