It is a truth universally acknowledged, that readers in pursuit of enjoyment, must be in want of a Jane Austen Delve….
Jane Austen, acclaimed in literary criticism, films, prequels and sequels, spin-offs and mash-ups, has so much to offer that not even a whole year could do her justice, but for the sake of six weeks, the class will investigate the major novels of the writer with a dip into Austen’s Juvenilia and zombies and monsters, and the depiction of the novels in film. With the focus on how the novels portray the life of England during the author’s times and her legacy in novel writing —comedy of manners, social satire —the readers will finally refute the concept that the Austen novels are simply “chick-lit.”
