Making Picture Books: Cathy Camper, Nora Ericson, Sabrina Moyle, Carrie Tillotson

Discuss the process of creating picture books with authors Nora Ericson (Too Early), Sabrina Moyle (The Cosmic Adventures of Astrid & Stella), Carrie Tillotson (Counting to Bananas), and moderator Cathy Camper (Arab Arab All Year Long).

This event is geared toward anyone who is interested in the process of creating picture books, from readers to potential authors of all ages.


Portland Book Festival General Admission Passes are required for entry into all events. Passes are $15 in advance and $25 day of Festival. Youth 17 & under, or with a valid high school ID get in FREE. All full-priced General Admission Passes include a $5 book fair voucher and entry into Portland Art Museum. Passes admit attendees to the Festival; individual events are first-come, first-served. More info here.

Cathy Camper

Cathy Camper is the author of the award-winning Lowriders in Space graphic novel series, Arab Arab All Year Round, Ten Ways to Hear Snow and Bugs Before Time. She also writes zines, including Sugar Needle, and is a founding member of the Portland Women of Color zine collective. An Arab American and a graduate of VONA/Voices writing, Cathy is a librarian and lives in Portland, Oregon.

Nora Ericson

Nora Ericson studied painting at Yale University and writing for children at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Originally from central New York, she now lives in Portland, Oregon, with two kids, two dogs, and two cats. Besides reading and writing, she loves cooking, tromping in the woods, and whittling spoons while daydreaming of her future miniature donkey farm. She’s also the author of Dill & Bizzy: An Odd Duck and a Strange Bird and Dill & Bizzy: Opposite Day. Her latest book is Too Early.

Carrie Tillotson

Carrie Tillotson is the children’s author of the books Counting to Bananas and the forthcoming B Is for Bananas. Before she started writing children’s books, Carrie worked as a biostatistician. Her job involved counting a lot of numbers (but not many bananas). Her debut picture book, Counting to Bananas, was selected as an Amazon Editors’ Pick and Best Books of 2022 So Far. She lives in Oregon with her husband and son, two dogs, and two chickens.
