This lecture will explore why Jazz remains ever present in an evolving musical landscape and the important impact it continues to have on humanity.

Marcia Hocker is a Director on the PDX Jazz Board, serving as the Education-Community Engagement Chair since 2011. In addition to being one of the primary emcees, she is the Coordinator and performs in their premier education performance program, the Incredible Journey Of Jazz now seen by over 15,000 students.

She is the recipient of the PDX Jazz 2018 McClendon/Makarounis for Jazz Advocacy as well as the 2018 Jazz Hero Award for the city of Portland by the nationally recognized Jazz Journalist Association, one of only 22 people in the country to receive that award. On March 9, 2019, Marcia was among 12 women presented with the Unsung Shero Queen Award from Empowered Sistas.
