Rick Mitchell is the author of Jazz In the New Millennium: Live and Well, published in 2014 by Dharma Moon Press. He has been writing professionally about all types of music for more than forty years. In the 1970s and Eighties, he was a music critic for Willamette Week, The Oregon Journal and The Oregonian. From 1983 to 1987, he led the avant-garde funk-jazz band Le Bon. In the 1990s, Rick was music editor at the Houston Chronicle and the jazz columnist for Request Magazine. His articles and reviews have been published in dozens of national and regional publications. Since returning to Portland in 2017, Rick has been a frequent guest host on KBOO’s Wednesday and Saturday jazz programs.
