PDX JAZZ: Ralph Ellison & the Blues People

Pancho Savery will host the evening’s event that includes lecture and discussion. In this presentation, Savery will discuss Ralph Ellison & The Blues People. Savery will present an analysis of Ellison’s Invisible Man and its relationship to the blues. Is the blues a form of music, a sad feeling, an existential attitude toward life, or all of the above? What does a 1952 novel have to tell us about what it means to be an American in the twenty-first century?  Savery will attempt to answer these questions and more!
