Nicky Nicholson-Klingerman & Tashon Phoenix pop-up in the Portland Art Museum galleries.

Nicholson-Klingerman and Phoenix are paired with the artwork Chief Bundle by Ka’ila Farrell-Smith; found in the Northwest Art gallery, on the 3rd floor of the Portland Art Museum. Please reference the Portland Art Museum Map or the Portland Book Festival print program to find this location.


Incite: Queer Writers Read is a curated reading series for Queer writers hosted by Vinnie Kinsella and Jennifer Perrine. Incite’s hope is to create conversation, connection, and greater understanding both within the Queer community and with other communities.

Portland Book Festival General Admission Passes are required for entry into all events. Passes are $15 in advance and $25 day of Festival. Youth 17 & under, or with a valid high school ID get in FREE. All full-priced General Admission Passes include a $5 book fair voucher and entry into Portland Art Museum. Passes admit attendees to the Festival; individual events are first-come, first-served. More info here.

Nicky Nicholson-Klingerman

A Northwestern University journalism graduate, Nicky Nicholson-Klingerman has been published in various media forms and outlets, including the Buckman Journal, Fertile Ground Festival and the Oregon Children’s Theatre. Her work focuses on life as a mixed Black queer artist navigating a system not made for her.

Tashon Phoenix

Born in Tucson, Arizona, Tashon Phoenix is a Black Queer Non-Binary Transmasc Creative and Spoken Word Artist. They moved to Oregon from Nebraska in their Jeep, Fall of 2020 with their cat, Otto, and dog, Bentley - embarking on a new journey shortly after their physical transition. Encouraged by their English teacher to write, their passion for poetry was a flame ignited when they were in 8th grade, snuffed out later at 18 by a church leader. A decade after in 2021, a match was again struck, beginning with writing words of affirmation. Tashon is creating and sharing their voice once more.
