Portland author, Wendy Chen, pops-up with her new book of poetry, Unearthings.
Chen will be paired with Shout by Inoue Yūichi in the Poetic Imagination in Japanese Art exhibit; found on the 1st floor of the Portland Art Museum. Please reference the Portland Art Museum Map to find this location.
In Unearthings, a Wrolstad Contemporary Poetry Series Selection, a deep privacy radiates from family dinners and theaters to the larger rings of gender, race, and history. Chen’s stories of isolation, exile, and emigration are an American experience difficult to ignore. Exploring her identity as an Asian American woman, Chen deftly negotiates the body and its archives, summoning and exorcising the ghosts within. Unearthings is a parade of sorts—through her work, she breaks silences that are expected and enforced.
