Springfield Celebrates Authors: Allison Cobb and Aaron Gilbreath

Sat, April 16 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm PDT
225 5th St Springfield, OR 97477
in person and online

Join two of this year’s finalists in Creative Nonfiction for a talk and reading at the Springfield Public Library.

In Plastic: An Autobiography (Nightboat Books), Alison Cobb’s obsession with a large plastic car part leads her to explore the violence of our consume-and-dispose culture, including her own life as a child of Los Alamos, where the first atomic bombs were made. The journey exposes the interconnections among plastic waste, climate change, nuclear technologies, and racism.

Aaron Gilbreath is the author of The Heart of California: Exploring the San Joaquin Valley (University of Nebraska Press). The Heart of California weaves the story of historian Frank Latta’s forgotten 1938 boat trip from Bakersfield to San Francisco with Aaron Gilbreath’s trip retracing Latta’s route by car during the 2014 drought, to bring this important, unusual region to life.

Springfield Celebrates Authors is an annual series presented by the Springfield Public Library highlighting local, national and international authors.  Past events can be found on the Springfield Celebrates Authors Playlist on the library’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/wheremindsgrow. All events are free and open to the public.

This event takes place in person, and there is also the option to attend on Zoom.
