What does a person need to write? Mary Ruefle wrote, (in her excellent essay/lecture/memoir, Madness, Rack, and Honey), “I never write with another body in the room, changing the flux of my mind.” While EB White said, “My house has a living room that is at the core of everything that goes on…There’s a lot of traffic. But it’s a bright, cheerful room, and I often use it as a room to write in, despite the carnival that is going on all around me.” Participants will spend a Saturday morning considering readings and doing exercises, seeking to define their own unique conditions for doing the work of writing.
