For writers at all levels
Venturing out of the classroom and into the world with notebooks in hand, students will learn how to create better dialog and set effective scenes through observation that is curated to to create mood, show relationships, and engage the reader. These snippets of real life record will then be turned into story. Wear your walking shoes.
Laura Lampton Scott’s work has appeared in Michigan Quarterly Review, Tin House and the Guardian online, Electric Literature, Monkeybicycle, Okey-Panky, and No Tokens Journal. She has served as assistant and managing editor on books in the McSweeney’s Voice of Witness series, and she’s a MacDowell Colony fellow. Laura has taught fiction at the University of Montana, Literary Arts in Portland, and Hugo House in Seattle.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: Scholarships pay for the entire class tuition. All of our writing classes have at least one scholarship position available, made possible by a generous gift from Dennis Steinman. In addition, list three classes in order of preference, why you would like to request a scholarship, and if you have taken a Literary Arts class before. Please note that preference is not guaranteed. All scholarships are subject to availability. Scholarship availability is confirmed 1-2 weeks before the class begins.
