Limited to 10 students
Revision is a writer’s best friend, outside of a good cat, but it can often feel overwhelming. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn about different levels of edits, and then, using a piece of their own fiction or nonfiction, walk through a series of revisions steps (adapted for creative writers from Richard Lanham’s “Paramedic method”), which will help to tighten and enliven their prose. Students will learn how to use this method to identify and address mechanical and style issues in their future drafts after the class is completed.
Chelsea Biondolillo is the author of two prose chapbooks, Ologies and #Lovesong, both from Etchings Press, UIndy. Her first full-length essay collection, The Skinned Bird, is forthcoming from Kernpunkt Press in June 2019. She is a 2019 Oregon Literary Fellowship recipient. She has a dual master’s degree in both creative writing and environmental studies from the University of Wyoming. Her journalism has appeared on public radio and in Science, Discover Magazine, Nautilus, and others. Her prose has appeared in a number of online and print spaces, including Brevity, The Fourth River, River Teeth, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Flyway, Diagram, Essay Daily, Creative Nonfiction, Vela Mag, Orion, Sonora Review, New Ohio Review, and others.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: Scholarships pay for the entire class tuition. All of our writing classes have at least one scholarship position available, made possible by a generous gift from Dennis Steinman. In addition, list three classes in order of preference, why you would like to request a scholarship, and if you have taken a Literary Arts class before. Please note that preference is not guaranteed. All scholarships are subject to availability. Scholarship availability is confirmed 1-2 weeks before the class begins.
