Every summer, the International Writing Program at University of Iowa hosts Between the Lines (BTL), a program that brings together American and foreign high school writers to study creative writing and cultural interaction. This is a call for young writers to apply to attend the BTL Arabic World, from June 22-July 6, or BTL Russia, from July 13 – July 27.
From their website:
Participants attend courses designed to both increase awareness of world literatures and improve their writing craft, including an English-language literature seminar and a creative writing workshop in the language of their choice. Classes are led by teachers who are respected, prize-winning poets and writers. Weekend events and nightly activities allow students to deepen their understanding of each other’s cultures through their interactions with each other and with the larger community.
Criteria: Applicants must be 16-19 years old as of July 13, 2013, able to demonstrate proficiency in English, and able to engage and thrive in an atmosphere that brings together different kinds of people and views.
You can fill out an online application here, and the deadline has been extended to April 20, 2013.
