Spring Events 2024

Every season brings with it unique opportunities for Literary Arts to showcase our mission to engage readers, support writers, and inspire the next generation, and this Spring is no different! Read on to explore the wonderful events we have for readers, writers, and youth this season.

Everybody Reads

On April 4, we welcome Gabrielle Zevin to the Arlene Schnitzer for the culminating event of Multnomah County Library’s Everybody Reads program! This community reading project promotes shared reading and discussion around a single book: this year, the best-selling Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, a novel following the relationship between three friends who begin a successful video game company together. Stop by any Multnomah County Library branch while supplies last to pick up your free copy of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and join in a night of community and discussion with author Gabrielle Zevin herself! Free tickets are available for youth 17 and under or 18 with a current high school ID.

Oregon Book Awards

Join us on April 8 for the 2024 Oregon Book Awards Ceremony, hosted by Kwame Alexander! This is a night to honor the extraordinary literary talent in our state, celebrate finalists across seven categories, and of course, announce the winners. We will also honor the Oregon Literary Fellowship recipients at the ceremony.

Verselandia! Youth Poetry Slam

Finally, get ready to be blown away by the incredible creative talents of youth poets at this year’s Verselandia! Youth Poetry Slam Championship on April 25, hosted by Oregon Poet Laureate, Anis Mojgani! This is a high energy event full of truth-telling, creativity, and diverse talent, and a wonderful opportunity to affirm and celebrate the importance of the creative young voices in our community. Free tickets are available for youth 17 and under or 18 with a current high school ID!

We hope you will join us at one or all of these amazing events! Be sure to check out our full calendar for additional events, writing classes, and readers seminars.
