Internship Opening: Programs for Writers Intern

Literary Arts seeks a Program for Writers intern for the four months leading up to the Oregon Book Awards ceremony. This internship offers a great way to gain experience working for a community-based literary non-profit.

Programs for Writers support, promote, and celebrate Oregon’s writers and publishers. In addition to the Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships for emerging and established writers, the program also offers writing classes and literary events at our downtown center.

POSITION: @Programs for Writers Intern

DURATION:The internship would start in January, 2024 and last through April 8, 2024
4 hours a week (ideally one afternoon a week)
 The ideal candidate will also be able to assist at the Oregon Book Awards ceremony on Monday, April 8th, and assist at some evening events between January 18 and April 4th.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This intern will work most of the hours in the office at Literary Arts, 925 SW Washington. Primary duties include assisting the Director of Programs for Writers  with tasks related to Delves, writing classes, and the Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships programs, including, but not limited to: light copy editing, compilation of copy for event programs, blog postings, and other office tasks as assigned. In addition, this intern will also assist at some events at Literary Arts, as their schedule allows, as noted above. Evening events hours are 6:00-9:30.
  • Assist with event production at Oregon Book Awards ceremony at the Armory at Portland Center Stage on April 8,2024.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in learning more about the nonprofit arts sector and producing community events. Qualifications include the ability to make decisions and solve problems. Previous experience with Microsoft Excel and Word are desirable but not required.

COMPENSATION: This internship includes a stipend of $1,000.
