Ways to Give to Literary Arts

As we near the end of the calendar year, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for considering Literary Arts in your year-end philanthropic efforts. Your support serves as the catalyst behind our capacity to connect with 24,000 readers, nurture 1,500 writers, and ignite the creative spirits of 4,000 of Portland’s bright and aspiring youth. Recognizing that philanthropy takes diverse forms, we are committed to assisting you in selecting the approach that resonates most with you.

Here are several accessible avenues for making a meaningful contribution to Literary Arts:

Online or by Mail

Donate online securely using your credit card through our website

Alternatively, you may mail a check to our office at the address provided below. Please ensure checks are dated on or before December 31, 2023.

ACH or Wire Transfer

Reach out to the Development Department at development@literary-arts.org for detailed instructions on how to complete an ACH or wire transfer. Remember, transfers must be received by December 31, 2023.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)

If you’re aged 70 ½ or older, you can make a charitable gift directly from your IRA to a qualifying institution, making you eligible for valuable tax benefits. This donation must be sent directly from your account to Literary Arts without passing through your hands. Consult your financial advisor about making a direct transfer or arranging for a check to be sent directly from your financial institution.

Gifts of Stock

Please complete our donation form and follow our transfer instructions here. Filling out the donation form will equip us with the necessary information to ensure the proper processing of your gift. The electronic transfer should be received by December 31, 2023.

Legacy (Planned) Gifts

Legacy or planned gifts present an exceptional way to leave a lasting impact. These contributions not only afford us the opportunity to express our gratitude but also serve as an inspiration to others. For further information on Legacy Gifts, we invite you to learn more here. To schedule a confidential conversation, please contact the Development Department at development@literary-arts.org.

Corporate Matching

If you’re an employee or retiree, you might be able to double (or even triple!) the impact of your gift through corporate matching programs. Some participating companies include Adidas, Bank of America, Columbia Sportswear, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Nike, and The Standard. To find out if your company participates, reach out to your HR representative.

Your support is the lifeblood of our organization, enabling us to continue enriching our community through the power of literature. We appreciate your dedication and the difference you make.

Oregon Cultural Tax Credit

Oregon taxpayers can double their impact through the Oregon Cultural Trust tax credit. Donate to Literary Arts during 2023 (or to any nonprofit on this list), then give a matching gift (up to $500 for individuals/ $1,000 filing jointly) to the Oregon Cultural Trust. On your state tax form, report your gift to Oregon Cultural Trust and you’ll receive 100% of it back in the form of a credit against your state taxes.

For example: If you make a $500 donation to Literary Arts, and then make a $500 donation to Oregon Cultural Trust, the $500 donation to Oregon Cultural Trust will come back to you as a dollar-for-dollar credit against your state income taxes and you will help many worthy cultural organizations across the state!
