Have you visited the kids’ section at the Literary Arts Bookstore? It’s the coziest corner and home to a fantastic selection of bookseller-beloved titles for kids and teens (and adults!). As we grow into our new space, we’re eager to find new ways to share our love of literature with young readers. Here’s a peek at some of the programing we have in the store and coming up:
Story time
Story time is here! We’re beyond excited that our first ever story time will be a language-building blend of story, song, and play with our friends at Adventures in Spanish. Be sure to join us on Saturday, Feb 22 from 10:30-11am.
Look for the story time calendar to fill up as we head towards spring. The bookstore will typically be hosting story times on Saturdays in that 10:30–11:00 a.m. time slot with Spanish story time on the last Saturday of each month.
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
School bouts conclude at the end of February and regionals are on the way! Catch up with the 2024-2025 OBOB books on our featured display. Soon we’ll be switching them over for the 2025-2026 titles so be sure to stop in again once the full list is announced!
Author Events
Speaking of the battle of the books… don’t miss out on an opportunity to meet one of this year’s authors: Jonathan Hill, author of Tales of a Seventh-Grade Lizard Boy. Join us to celebrate the launch of the much-anticipated Lizard Boy 2: The Most Perfect Summer Ever here at the bookstore on April 8th.
Portland Public Schools
What’s glittering in the kids’ section? A golden key, of course! We’re honored to be a literacy partner for Portland Public School’s Lifting Literacy program. Now through March 2, PPS students and their families visiting the store should keep their eyes peels for hidden keys. Find them and register to win awesome prizes!
