Each year, Literary Arts publishes an anthology of the student work created in our Writers in the Schools [WITS] workshops and Verselandia! qualifying and grand slams.
This month, we are featuring a poem written by Eva Cruz titled “Cherries the Pit of My Memories”. You can read it below.
Cherries the Pit of My Memories by Eva Cruz
Cherries
The memories you hold
The stories you tell
From sleeping in cherry orchards
To the cherry festival
I pick you to eat or to bake
Cherries
Red to yellow
From seed to stem
Stem to fruit
Each part of you holds a memory
Either a happy one
Or a sad one
But nonetheless
I love you
I love the memories you hold in your branches
Though you hold tears in your leaves
You are still dear to me
Cherries
Bitter but still sweet
Just like the memories you hold
