Writers in the Schools Residencies Fall Semester Recap

Writers in the Schools (WITS) fall residencies came to a close this month with readings for Madison HS, Benson HS, Gresham HS, and Parkrose HS. WITS writers taught poetry, journalism, fiction and creative nonfiction in eleven virtual classrooms this semester. Students read their work at end-of-residency readings for each school this winter.

WITS writers taught over Zoom and Google Meet to a total of 283 students over the fall semester. At the end-of-residency readings, students shared work from digital chapbooks, slideshows, and mixed media presentations about outer space, ants, local hip hop artists, growing up and their favorite meals.

Thank you to all our WITS writers and fall teaching partners for their hard work, as well as WITS liaisons and principals for their support of these residencies. Thank you to the students for sharing their incredible work.
