James R. Gapinski Oregon

James R. Gapinski (they/them) is the author of Edge of the Known Bus Line,winner of the 2018 Etchings Press Novella Prize, named to Kirkus Reviews’ Best Books of 2018, and a finalist for the 2019 Montaigne Medal. Their short story collection, The Museum of Future Mistakes, won the 2024 BOA Short Fiction Prize and will be published by BOA Editions in late 2025. James is also the author of three chapbooks: The Last Dinosaurs of Portland, Fruit Rot, and Messiah Tortoise. They run Conium Press in Portland, Oregon and teach fiction for Southern New Hampshire University’s online MFA program.

Wild Thing: Animals as Characters

This course features several generative writing prompts where you'll practice writing animalistic short stories, and you can expect to leave with at least one rough draft and several new ideas for future development. While this course primarily focuses on studying craft and developing new work, participants have the option to share drafts and receive feedback.
