César Aira: Shantytown, Ghosts, Fulgentius
$125
César Aira is one of the most prolific authors of our time, having published over 100 books since 1975, his bizarre & starkly idiosyncratic work pushes through genres that sometimes collapse mid-text only to be rebuilt around another plot to end his powerful little books. Winner of numerous literary awards & finalist for the 2015 Man Booker International Prize, Aira is now getting mentioned as a potential Nobel Prize recipient after many years as a contemporary literary export from Argentina.
The three novels read for this seminar are from various points during his fiction-writing career. Ghosts (1990), Shantytown (2001), and Fulgentius (2020), give insight into the dreamlike philosophies of this brilliant fiction author who is always proving he have barely explored the possibilities of books.
