Hybrid Essay 1: The Draft

February 25 - March 25, 2027, Thursdays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (five sessions)

$300

Hybrid memoir uses nonlinear narratives to linger in indefinable experiences and places within ourselves. In this class, we will explore a different element of hybrid memory each week through readings, discussion, and in-class writing: music, story, dream, memory and form. The goal of this class is to understand and practice writing that is at once intimate and intellectually rigorous, a space particular readers will want to occupy even if the subject matter is bizarre or treacherous. Writing prompts will encourage students to experiment with structure and voice and hopefully deepen into their own hybrid memoir drafts. This class will provide time, space, and inspiration for writers in early and middle stages of a nontraditional memoir. Participants will have the option to share work with each other and receive feedback from the facilitator.

Access Program
We want our writing classes and seminars to be accessible to everyone, regardless of income and background. We understand that our tuition structure can present obstacles for some people. Our Access Program offers writing class and seminar tuitions at a reduced rate. Most writing classes have at least one access spot available.

Please apply here for access rate tuition. Contact Susan Moore at susan@literary-arts.org if you have questions.
