Naming (Writing) Race In Story

This writing class will briefly examine how race and racism has been used to oppress the lives of black, Indigenous and other racializedpeoples. Participants will also explore how the lack of authentic representations in stories impacts the reader – specifically the young reader – regardless of their own race.
This class asks participants to look inward with introspective activities that will ask the writer participant to consider their own privileges and oppressions in order to understand how their own perspectives impact the characters they create. Finally, the class will explore different ways people can engage with race in their writing.
Access Program
We want our writing classes and Delves to be accessible to everyone, regardless of income and background. We understand that our tuition structure can present obstacles for some people. Our Access Program offers writing class and Delve tuitions at a reduced rate. Most writing classes have at least one access spot available.
