SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT: VISUAL POETRY WORKSHOP

October 5 - November 9, 2025, Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (six sessions)
716 SE Grand Ave Portland, OR 97214

$350 (materials included)

Visual poetry makes imagery literal. At the intersection of written expression and visual art, this hybrid genre complicates how readers and writers arrive at meaning—it asks us to enter poetry and the image from new angles, to look at language as it exists beyond the stanza. Visual poetry is as expansive as it is playful which can complement any writer’s practice. Over the course of this six-week workshop, writers can expect to generate four new poetry experiments, one complete visual poetry project, and leave the workshop with a working knowledge of this exciting genre.

No previous visual art or poetry experience necessary to experience success and growth in this course. Supplies will be provided.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

WEEK 1: text as image
WEEK 2: image as text
WEEK 3: erasure/found poetry
WEEK 4: no one way through it
WEEK 5: foraging/workday
WEEK 6: process show-n-tell/gallery walk

Liaison position
Every in-person class and seminar at Literary Arts has one liaison position. Liaisons perform specific duties for each class meeting. If you are a liaison for a class or seminar, the full amount of your tuition is covered by Literary Arts.
