Writing Outside of the Self
$340
How do we write into the unknown? What stories outside of our own, choose us to tell them and why?
In this six-week course, we will develop stories we are not yet sure how to write and uncover just how effective and dynamic our unique storytelling can be. We’ll bring them to their fullest consideration by adventuring through our ideas and returning to the joy of imagination and invention. Learning how to shape our inspirations and curiosities, we’ll build confidence in our explorations, deepen our prose and connect to wider worlds.
Together we’ll look at encouraging and informative excerpts by visionary authors such as Elif Shafak, Ali Smith, Salman Rushdie and Jorges Luis Borges, to name a few. We will discuss the joy of fiction as well as the challenges we might experience when we attempt to write what we don’t yet know, and generate pieces of prose through many imaginative prompts you’ll forever have in your toolkit for practicing your craft.
