Last night Alison Clement, Monica Drake and Elizabeth Rusch read at Stage One in Enterprise, as part of the Oregon Book Awards author tour.
Monica Drake was the first reader. Halfway through her reading, the lights went out! A resourceful audience member went to his car and found a flashlight, and the reading continued.
I think that was the first time an Oregon Book Awards author tour reading has been conducted by flashlight.
Tonight the tour will travel to La Grande, and hopefully we will have electricity for the entire reading. Although there is something kind of cozy about reading by flashlight.
An excellent way to find out about readings, workshops and other literary events throughout the state is the Oregon Literary Coalition email list. Most of the events listed take place with the lights on.
That would have been something to be a part of.
Wowza! How theatrical. Maybe you should pick up some candles on the way to La Grande. Hello, ambiance.
