This Tuesday, December 4, students will read their work published in the 2011-12 WITS Anthology, There is a Fire / Que hay un Fuego, at Powell’s City of Books on Broadway. The reading is free and open to the public and begins at 7:30 p.m. Students will be joined onstage by teachers, WITS writers, and Literary Arts staff members. Here is the program for the event:
Each year, teachers at Portland Public high schools (and several alternative programs) host a WITS writer-in-residence for a semester. Students in these classes create and revise works of fiction and nonfiction in the form of poetry, prose, plays, and comics. The WITS anthology is an annual collection of student work from throughout the city, and the published pieces contain a wonderful diversity of experiences, cultures, perspectives and emotions. We invite you to come celebrate and support these talented young writers!
