We had our second WITS Reading for Meek Pro-Tech High School students at the Miss Zumstein cafe in NE Portland last week, and it was just as cozy and inspiring as the previous one. Students munched on delicious baked goods provided by the cafe and listened attentively to each others’ pieces. Laura Moulton, the writer-in-residence, shared a fantastic piece encouraging students to detach from cell phones and screens and engage in the physical world around them. Her mix of humor and passion clearly inspired students to write some authentic pieces about their own lives. She also gave each student a fantastic “Certificate of Fearlessness,” which you can see in the photos below. Thanks to teachers Amy Taramasso and Tom Kane, as well as all the students, and especially to the Miss Zumstein cafe for another great reading!
