Announcing the Inaugural PBF Cover to Cover

We at Literary Arts are hard at work planning our next year of programming, and are especially excited to hold a fully in-person Portland Book Festival (PBF) on November 5th. With this exciting return, we are also proud to announce our new partner event program, PBF Cover to Cover!

This will be a community event, much in the spirit of Lit Crawl® Portland. We are looking for an eclectic mix of fun and engaging programs across the city. While events fall “under the umbrella” of PBF and should have a literary or storytelling connection, they don’t need to be explicitly book readings. Multi-author readings will be considered, but as PBF already features authors in conversation, think of this as an invitation to go outside the possibilities of a traditional reading.

Literary trivia, poem karaoke, a fiction reading with musical accompaniment–submit your unique chapter into the inaugural PBF Cover to Cover program!

PBF Cover to Cover events will run Monday, October 31 to Sunday, November 6, 2022. PBF Cover to Cover proposals are now closed. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis; please submit your event early for best consideration. Proposals will be approved, and primary contacts notified, by September 9th.

PBF Cover to Cover FAQ

What’s the difference between PBF Cover to Cover and Lit Crawl Portland®?

PBF Cover to Cover will be similar in content to Lit Crawl Portland®, that is, it will be made up of literary events beyond that of just a traditional author reading. In addition, this program will also go outside of the venues at the Park Blocks. However, some of the big differences are that PBF Cover to Cover will consist of a full week of events, programs will not be restricted to one part of Portland, and venues do not need to be within walking distance of each other.

Is PBF providing venues for PBF Cover to Cover events?

No. While it was part of the Lit Crawl Portland® format to be given an event space to use, PBF Cover to Cover Partners will provide their own venues. We hope that this will allow for increased involvement across the city, fitting pairings between events and settings, and more creative power in the hands of PBF Cover to Cover Partners.

What kind of events are you interested in?

Give us your idiosyncratic, original, clever ideas for a literary event. Don’t let us judge a book by its cover–surprise us with an unexpected link to the literary world, or, make us reconsider what it is to tell a story. Events in the past have tied literature in with culinary skills, jazz, and even improvisational comedy. Unsure if your idea fits? Feel free to ask!

Can I charge an entry fee for my event?

Priority will be given to free programming, although ticketed events will be considered. We do not permit, and will not approve, PBF Cover to Cover events that are fundraisers or that ask for donations.
