Internship Openings: @Literary Arts Event Interns

Literary Arts seeks two Event Interns to assist Programs for Writers with the preparation and execution of events at our downtown center at 925 SW Washington. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Programs for Writers support, promote, and celebrate Oregon’s writers and publishers. In addition to the Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships for emerging and established writers, the program also offers writing classes and literary events at our downtown center.

POSITION: @Literary Arts Event Intern (two positions)

DURATION:The internship would start in January, 2024 and last through April 8, 2024, for at least 10  events at Literary Arts, listed below. Specific events the intern would be working are listed below.  The internship would take place evenings, from 6PM to 9PM at Literary Arts at 925 SW Washington.This is an in-person internship.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with event set-up and take-down for approximately 10-15 events at our downtown office space. This includes moving of tables and chairs, setting up food and display items and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth event.
  • Assist with event production at Oregon Book Awards ceremony at the Armory at Portland Center Stage on April 8,2024.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in learning more about the nonprofit arts sector and producing community events. Qualifications include the ability to make decisions and solve problems. Previous experience with college or community events is helpful but not required.

EVENT SCHEDULE: Candidates must be available for at least 10 of  the following event dates:

  5. 2/25/24 Oregon Book Awards and Fellowships Reception (4:00-8:00 p.m.)

  7. 3/6/24 One Page Wednesday
  8. 3/13/24 Incite
  9. 3/21/24 Slamlandia
  10. 3/27/24 BIPOC reading series
  11. 4/2/24 Oregon Book Awards finalist reading
  12. 4/8/24 Oregon Book Awards Ceremony (Portland Center Stage)
  13. 4/12/24 Steve Almond
  14. potential other events as well

COMPENSATION: This internship includes a stipend of $750
