Roosevelt WITS student reading at Cathedral Coffee

by Mel Wells

Cathedral Coffee was standing-room-only during our WITS student reading for Roosevelt High School! Thirteen students shared their work, which varied widely in tone and subject matter, and between fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. Students from Shawn Swanson and Deanna Delgado’s freshman classes worked with WITS writer Joanna Rose, and students in Tory Rodgers and Clair Roix’s freshman classes worked with Matthew Robinson. Both WITS writers shared their work as well, and Mr. Swanson shared a poem about “How to Teach Ninth Grade” which included the word “fail” repeated several times and drew a loud round of applause. RHS librarian and Youth Programs liaison Betsy Tighe was in attendance, and gave a shoutout to students for reading, and encouraged them to continue writing.
