Hip Bones by Talia Marie Bollard

Hip Bones
by Talia Marie Bollard from Metropolitan Learning Center
Published in the 2007-2008 WITS Anthology I Once Was Young and Strong

Pointy thin bone almost ripping my flesh
Creating a mountain under my skin
Disappearing then reappearing

Flat on the ground like a pancake
They poke out to see the world, sharp
Pointy thin bone almost ripping my flesh

Bringing my skeleton form into the obvious
Will they pierce through my clear skin?
Disappearing then reappearing

My hip bones are sharp and angular
Rubbery shield is so strong
Pointy thin bone almost ripping my flesh

Lining my stomach like protective towers
Just a bony skeleton
Disappearing and reappearing

Flesh and blood stretch over them tight
squeezing my bones like leather stretched over a drum
Pointy thin bone almost ripping my flesh
Disappearing then reappearing
