Rene Denfeld is an award-winning novelist, journalist, and death row investigator living in Portland, Oregon. She is the bestselling author of The Child Finder and The Enchanted, which was a finalist for the Center for Fiction’s Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel prize and received the Prix du Premier Roman Étranger in France. Her most recent book is The Butterfly Girl. She has written for many publications, including The New York Times, Washington Post, and the Oregonian. In 2017 the New York Times named her a Hero of the Year for her justice work. She is featured in the anthology Dispatches from Anarres: Tales of Tribute to Ursula K. Le Guin.
