Incite: Queer Writers Read

Incite: Queer Writers Read is a curated, bimonthly reading series for Queer writers. Incite’s hope is to create conversation, connection, and greater understanding both within the Queer community and with other communities. Hosted by Vinnie Kinsella and Jennifer (JP) Perrine.

The featured readers for January are Brody Parrish Craig, Milo Muise, and Jaye Nasir. The theme is ‘Invitation’.

Vinnie Kinsella

Vinnie’s love for books began in the second grade, when he worked with his fellow students to write and illustrate a story about the adventures of an ice-cream-loving giraffe. Since then he has worked as a writer, editor, book designer, publisher, workshop presenter, and college instructor. He is the editor of Fashionably Late: Gay, Bi, and Trans Men Who Came Out Later in Life and the author of A Little Bit of Advice for Self-Publishers.

Jennifer Perrine

Jennifer (JP) Perrine is the author of five award-winning books of poetry: Beautiful Outlaw, Again, The Body Is No Machine, In the Human Zoo, and No Confession, No Mass. Their other recent work appears in Best Small Fictions, A Mouth Holds Many Things: A De-Canon Hybrid Lit Collection, and Cascadia Field Guide: Art, Ecology, and Poetry. A two-time winner of Arts and Culture Diversity and Inclusion Awards from the Asian American Journalists Association, Perrine lives in Portland, Oregon, where they cohost the Incite: Queer Writers Read series, perform stand-up comedy, and work as the equity and racial justice program manager for Metro Parks and Nature.

Brody Parrish Craig

Originally from Louisiana, Brody Parrish Craig (they/them) is a queer southern writer who upheaves expectations to open spaces for connection, unlearning & change. They are the author of The Patient is an Unreliable Historian & Boyish, winner of the 2019 Omnidawn Poetry Chapbook Contest. They are editor of TWANG, a regional collection of trans, gender nonconforming & nonbinary creators tied to the south/Midwest . Milo Muise

Milo Muise

Milo R. Muise is a trans writer from New England. An alum of the University of Idaho’s MFA program and the Tin House Summer Workshop, they also received a 2018 Oregon Literary Fellowship in poetry. Their debut chapbook, TL;DR, was selected by Hanif Abdurraqib and is out now with Newfound Press. Jaye Nasir

Jaye Nasir

Jaye Nasir is a writer based in Portland, Oregon. Her work has recently appeared or is forthcoming in Poetry Northwest, New Orleans Review, and Heaven Looks Like Us: Palestinian Poetry, and has been supported by the Tin House Workshop, Sitka Center for Arts and Ecology, Hedgebrook and the Atticus Hotel. Her poem "Palestine is a Place" won the 2024 Sundress Publications Broadside Contest and was a runner-up for the 2024 Rhonda Gail Williford award. Her fiction chapbook, Full of Eyes Within, is available from The Fabulist, and her poetry is featured in the video game Life is Strange: Double Exposure.
