Grades 9–12
This workshop will explore the healing and performative aspects of spoken word poetry. Students will engage with spoken word poets from Gwendolyn Brooks to Brandon Leake, with time to write and perform their own spoken word poetry and share space and community with other young poets.
Nicky Nicholson-Klingerman
Pronouns: she/her
Nicky Nicholson-Klingerman's stories appeared in Black Girl Magic Magazine, Sixfold Magazine, and Buckman Journal. Her play, Girl in the Leather, debuted at the Fertile Ground Festival. She featured as a poet at Literary Arts' Portland Book Festival. Nicky's work focuses on life as a queer, Black artist navigating unjust systems.
