My Brain by Euridise Lujano

My Brain
by Euridise Lujano from Power Academy, Roosevelt campus
Published in the 2007-2008 WITS Anthology I Once Was Young and Strong (Available for purchase)

My brain is my brother crying.

The rain pouring down the window
as I see the streetlights go
from green to yellow to red.

My brain is cars speeding by
as I hear the birds tweaking
while I walk to school.

My brain is the color
of hot Cheetos,
my lips touching against
my boyfriend’s.

  1. “My brain is the color
    of hot Cheetos”
is perhaps the most original metaphor I've heard all year!
