Graft Union Reading Series & Open Mic

Fri, Aug 16, 2024 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT
716 SE Grand Ave Portland, OR 97214

Join us for the third installment of the Graft Union Reading Series—a monthly event for sharing creative writing, food, drink, and community, featuring student writers from PDX academic institutions and beyond!

The Graft Union Reading Series is a community-driven collective for students and emergent writers in Portland with an emphasis on celebrating new voices. We hope to foster spaces for self-expression through creative writing—not limited by form or genre—and actively encourage multicultural and multilingual work. Graft Union is based on a non-hierarchical structure with transparent and inclusive organization. Our goal is to develop connections between student, alumni, faculty, and community members across different campuses in the Portland area.

About the name: A “graft union” is the junction between the rootstock and the scion of a grafted plant—where two different plants fuse and unify into one. Likewise, the Graft Union Reading Series envisions itself as a locality of interconnectivity and new growth.

Free and open to the public, this event will highlight students and alumni from Portland State University, University of Portland, Portland Community College, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Lewis & Clark University, Reed College, as well as other local writers.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and readings will begin at 7:00 p.m.
