Now it is September

September 8th is the deadline to enter the Bear Deluxe Magazine Doug Fir Fiction Award. The contest awards a prize of $1,000 & publication in Bear Deluxe Magazine for a short story about the natural world, sense of place, or environmental issues. Jon Raymond will judge. Submit a story of up to 5,000 words with a $15 entry fee, which includes a copy of the prize issue, by September 8. That’s a postmark deadline! Visit their web site for complete details.

Speaking of short stories, there’s a discussion on Rumpus about the future of the short story.

On September 9, Oregon Book Awards finalist John Morrison will read as part of the Milwaukie Poetry Series. The reading takes place at 7:30 p.m., in the Pond House adjacent to the Ledding Library, 2215 SE Harrison.
