The 2022 Portland Book Festival, presented by Bank of America, returned to its full, in-person footprint in downtown Portland on Saturday, November 5, with more than 5,000 attendees and 100 authors and presenters. The Festival is a daylong event that features authors in conversation, readings in the Portland Art Museum, writing workshops for youth and adults, a dedicated stage for kids’ storytime and activities, and an Exhibitor fair that features regional and national publishers, writing programs, and literary organizations. The live community event, held in Portland’s South Park Blocks, returned after Literary Arts’ pivot to virtual and hybrid pandemic events in 2020 and 2021, and it remains a vibrant driver of the arts economy in the city.
“It was heartening to see readers returning to downtown Portland this past weekend to hear from some of the greatest authors at work today,” said Andrew Proctor, Executive Director of Literary Arts. “Our community believes in the power of books and ideas and remains demonstrably supportive of writers and their work. Portland has become a center of literary culture, and our commitment to the Rose City is unwavering.”
“It was amazing to see people back together and showing up for books and storytelling,” said Amanda Bullock, Director of Public Programs for Literary Arts. “We are inspired by the strong support in our community for writers and their work. Programming this day is a privilege and a joy, and everyone at Literary Arts is excited to begin work on next year’s Festival in the months ahead.”
