Marilyn Freeman

Media artist and writer Marilyn Freeman (they/them) works at the intersections of reckoning and resiliency, queerness and film, and contemplative, creative and social practices. They are author of The Illuminated Space: A Personal Theory and Contemplative Practice of Media Art (The 3rd Thing, 2020) and creator of Cinema Divina®—short evocative films made for shared contemplative practice. Freeman’s lyric essay texts and films can be found at TriQuarterly, Blackbird, NinthLetter, The Fourth Genre, and Abbey of the Arts. Their documentary work has been featured on PBS, and Cinema Divina® and other experimental films are exhibited in galleries, theaters, festivals and spirituality centers worldwide. Freeman’s work was featured recently in London at MicroActs Artist Film Screenings, in Los Angeles at the 2020 Film and Video Poetry Symposium, at Seattle’s Northwest Film Forum, and will screen in spring 2021 at the International Video Poetry Festival in Athens, Greece.
