First Matter Press Book Launch Party

Sat, Aug 10, 2024 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

Join Oregon Literary Publishing Fellowship recipient First Matter Press on August 10th as they launch their 2024 titles, greenhouse and Suspended In My Insecticide Jar. 

The evening’s festivities will include featured readings from Sophie Hall and Clara McAuley, original art for purchase from 2024 cover artist Alexandra Strenfel, and readings from our 2024 Ekphrastic Poem Contest selections. More information can be found on www.firstmatterpress.org. 

This event is free to attend and open to the public.

Sophie Hall

Sophie Hall writes about homes and fears, especially where the two overlap. Her poems and essays have appeared in Passengers, Yalobusha Review, Nat. Brut, and RUBY, among others. Clara McAuley

Clara McAuley

Clara McAuley (she/her) is a queer poet from Portland, Oregon. Having graduated high school in 2023, she is now studying Pre-Med Biology and Creative Writing at Lehigh University, where she intends to costume theater productions, rant about social justice issues, and perform aerial silks in her spare time. Her work has previously been published in The Song Between Our Stars and Up North Literary Journal, and can also be found on her Instagram, @moths_and_poetry.

Alexandra Strenfel

Alexandra Strenfel

Alexandra Strenfel is an artist living and working in Seattle, Washington. She received her BA in Studio Art from University Of California, Berkeley in 2013, with a primary emphasis on painting. Her current work draws from a large library of online and physical images to create dream-like and emotive scenes that are heavily influenced by myth, fantasy, media, and culture. While painting remains her primary focus, she has expanded her practice to include charcoal and pencil figure drawing, collage, and occasionally, ceramics.
